How to use the result

Body fat percentage is one way to look at body composition. Tape-measure methods are convenient because they are quick and inexpensive, but they are less precise than lab methods and can shift with measurement technique. For best consistency, measure at the same time of day, use the same tape and avoid pulling the tape too tight.

Body fat goals should consider strength, health markers, menstrual function, energy, athletic needs and personal history. Very low levels can be harmful, and higher levels do not automatically define an individual's health. Use the estimate to follow broad trends rather than judging a single reading.
