BMR Calculator
Estimate basal metabolic rate, the energy your body uses at rest for basic functions.
What BMR tells you
BMR is the estimated number of calories your body burns while at rest. It covers essential processes like breathing, circulation, cell repair and temperature regulation. Your total daily calorie needs are usually higher because normal movement, digestion and exercise add extra energy use.
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is commonly used because it performs reasonably well for many adults, but no formula is perfect. Body composition, thyroid function, medication, dieting history and illness can all influence real energy needs. Use BMR as a baseline, then use the calorie calculator for a more complete activity-adjusted estimate.
